£28.00

Antique French postcard of the Cedar of Marengo in the Château de la Malmaison park — planted by Joséphine to mark Napoleon’s victory on 14 June 1800. ND Phot. No.51, c.1900. Unused, blank reverse.

Availability: 1 in stock

Original antique postcard showing the famous Cèdre de Marengo — the Cedar of Marengo — standing majestically in the park of the Château de la Malmaison. According to the caption, this cedar was planted by Empress Joséphine upon receiving news of Napoleon’s victory at the Battle of Marengo on 14 June 1800, one of the most decisive engagements of his Italian campaigns.

The caption reads: «Parc du Château de la MALMAISON. Le « Cèdre de Marengo », planté par Joséphine à la nouvelle de la victoire (14 juin 1800).»

Published by Neurdein Frères (ND Phot.) as No.51 in their Malmaison series. The reverse is blank and unused with a simple Carte Postale / Correspondance / Adresse layout, indicative of an early undivided-back or transitional-era card c.1900–1905. Light age toning to the front edges; reverse clean.

A remarkable piece of living history — combining Napoleonic military history, Joséphine’s personal story, and the iconic Malmaison grounds in a single card.
