The stamp features an engraved oval portrait of Braulio Carrillo Colina, head of state of Costa Rica in the 1830s–1840s, printed in bicolour: black portrait on a golden-yellow ornate background. Inscription reads Costa Rica, Correos y Telégrafos, UPU 1900, Braulio Carrillo, 10, Diez Céntimos.
