Original antique postcard depicting the private bathroom (Salle de Bain) of Emperor Napoleon I at the Château de la Malmaison. The photograph reveals a remarkably intimate space: a freestanding white porcelain bathtub dominates the right side of the room, while to the left stand an elegant Empire-style canapé, a dressing table with mirror and toiletry accessories, and a washstand with a gilded lion-head support. The walls are panelled and decorated with a refined neoclassical frieze featuring urns, swags, and floral motifs painted in the Pompeian manner. The parquet floor gleams beneath the composition, characteristic of the high craftsmanship of the Consulate period.
The caption reads: «139 — Château de la MALMAISON. Salle de Bain de Napoléon 1er. ND Phot.» Published by Neurdein Frères (ND Phot.) as No.139 in their celebrated Malmaison series, c.1905–1910.
The reverse is blank and unused, featuring the classic divided-back Carte Postale / Correspondance / Adresse layout. Very clean reverse with minimal age toning; front slightly faded but well-preserved. Private imperial interiors are among the most sought-after subjects in Napoleonica postcard collecting.
