Original antique postcard depicting the Salon de Musique — the Music Room — of the Château de la Malmaison. At the centre of the composition stands a magnificent pedal harp, a fixture of aristocratic and imperial musical life in the Napoleonic era. The room is furnished in the Empire style with gilded armchairs, a tufted settee, ornate mirrors, a chandelier, draped curtains, and a classical marble bust on a pedestal. The parquet floor is covered with a decorative medallion rug.
Joséphine was a noted patron of music and the arts, and the Salon de Musique was one of the most refined rooms in the château, regularly used for private musical entertainments during the Consulate and Empire periods.
Published by Neurdein Frères (ND Phot.) as No.192. The reverse is blank and unused, featuring the classic divided-back Carte Postale / Correspondance / Adresse layout. Age toning to the reverse, consistent with a card of this period; front in good condition.
