First Elzevier edition (Amsterdam, Daniel Elzevier, 1665), published the same year as the Paris first edition. Imprint reads “A Cologne. M.DC.LXV.” — standard Elzevier fiction. Cardinal de Retz wrote this as a 18-year-old political work about the failed 1547 conspiracy of Gian Luigi Fieschi against Doge Andrea Doria of Genoa. One of the rarest volumes in the Elzevier collection per Tchemerzine. 136pp duodecimo. Original 17th-century binding: blue leather spine with gilt rosettes and raised bands, green paper boards. Condition: spine heavily worn at head and tail, corners bumped, boards rubbed and peeling at spine joint. Handwritten ink inscription on title page (provenance unknown).
