Original patriotic German postcard commemorating Johanna Stegen, the celebrated Heroine of Lüneburg, who courageously supplied Prussian soldiers with ammunition during the Battle of Lüneburg on 2 April 1813 — a key engagement of the Napoleonic Wars of Liberation. The dramatic illustration by O. Kunöffel depicts Stegen running across the battlefield to deliver cartridges to the fighters amidst fierce combat.
The reverse caption reads: «Verein für das Deutschtum im Ausland. 5. Deutsche Frauen, deutsche Treue. (Johanna Stegen versorgt die Kämpfer mit Patronen.) Lüneburg, 2. April 1813.» Published by the Verein für das Deutschtum im Ausland (Society for German Culture Abroad), Berlin, c.1905 — a prominent patriotic organisation of the era.
The reverse is blank and unused, with a standard correspondence layout. Light age toning; front and reverse in good condition. An evocative piece of Prussian and German national history from the era of the Wars of Liberation.
