An excellent photographic postcard showing L’Antichambre (the Antechamber) at the Chateau de la Malmaison, from the celebrated Neurdein Freres (ND Phot.) series, No.172. The interior features an elegant Empire-style dressing room or antechamber with a distinctive star-patterned wallpaper, an oval-mirror dressing table, two gilded Empire armchairs with wreath medallion upholstery, a display cabinet with scientific instruments (globes), and a white marble female bust on a console. A fire screen with classical motifs completes the arrangement.
This room served as an anteroom or private dressing area within Malmaison’s residential apartments. Unused with clean undivided reverse. Part of a comprehensive interior documentation series of Malmaison produced in the early 1900s.
